Titanium Stannum carbide, Ti2SnC

Chinese name: carbon titanium tin
English name: Ti2SnC
Properties: Ti2SnC ceramic is a new type of structural ceramic which can be machined and has a special layered structure. It has the excellent properties of both metal and ceramic: similar to metal, it has good electrical and thermal conductivity, machinable, high damage tolerance and thermal shock resistance; Similar to ceramics, it has excellent properties such as high elastic modulus, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance.

Ti2SnC ceramic is a new type of structural ceramic with special layered structure which can be machined. It combines the excellent properties of metals and ceramics: similar to metals, it has good electrical conductivity

Thermal conductivity, machinability, high damage tolerance and thermal shock resistance; Similar to ceramics, it has excellent properties such as high elastic modulus, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance.

Based on the above advantages, Ti3SnC2 ceramics may be widely used as a matrix or reinforcement in aviation, aerospace, weapons and equipment, nuclear industry and electronic information and other high-tech fields.

Although Ti2SnC ceramics have excellent comprehensive properties and wide application prospects, the preparation of this material is difficult to control the purity, so the application of Ti3SnC2 ceramics is limited.

As described in the reference (J. Am. Ceram. Soc.96, No. 10, 2013), by using Fe as the sintering agent, the element mixture powder was hot-pressed and sintered at 1150 °C and 50 MPa for 10h.

Ti2SnC ceramics containing FexSny, Sn and TiC were obtained. As described in the literature (J. Am. Ceram. Soc.99, No. 7, 2016), Ti, Sn and graphite were used as raw materials for the preparation of argon atmosphere

Ti3SnC2 ceramics containing Sn and TiC impurities were obtained by sintering at 1600 °C for 4 h in a tube furnace.

The preparation method described above has a long sintering and holding time, and the generated impurity phases TiC and FexSny are difficult to remove, which has a very adverse effect on the performance of Ti2SnC ceramics. Therefore the preparation is of high purity

The Ti2SnC ceramic has important significance for the wide application of this material.

Purpose:
1.Ti2SnC material has high strength, high elastic modulus, self-lubrication, machinability, especially high conductivity, and is an ideal material to replace graphite brushes and electrodes.
2.Ti2SnC has low friction coefficient, good corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity, and is very suitable for the manufacture of various wear reduction components.
3.Ti2SnC can be used as the second phase enhancer. Because of its high conductivity and high modulus, it can be added to metals, ceramics and other materials to enhance the strength without affecting the conductivity of the matrix.
4. The yield strength and tensile strength of Ti2SnC reinforced Cu-based composites are 4 times and 2 times that of pure copper under the same process conditions, respectively, and maintain 12% elongation, while the conductivity is reduced very little.
