Niobium diboride (NbB2) is a high covalent refractory ceramic material with hexagonal crystal structure. NbB2 is an ultra-high temperature ceramic (UHTC) with a melting point of 3050°C, lattice constant: a=0.310nm, c=0.330nm, hardness (kg/mm2) : 2600. This, combined with its relatively low ~ 6.97 g/cm3 density and good high-temperature strength, makes it a candidate for high-temperature aerospace applications, such as hypersonic flight or rocket propulsion systems.

Synthesis method:
Niobium diboride was synthesized by heating in two phases after mixing boron and niobium in proportion.

Role and application fields:
Used as fine ceramic raw materials and superconducting materials. Among superconducting materials, only NbB has high superconducting transition temperature performance. At the same time, niobium diboride is the raw material of gold brazing. After brazing with refractory metal NbN, the wettability and spreading property are good, the fluidity of the solder is good, the joint filling ability is strong, and the high temperature strength of the weld is good.
